WE ARE A MONTESSORI SCHOOL
Montessori is not another word for ‘daycare’ or ‘preschool’. It is a method and philosophy of education based on the work of Dr. Maria Montessori (1870-1952).
Montessori created a unique educational approach using a potent combination of self-directed learning, mixed-age classrooms, collaboration, creativity, and social responsibility.
This unique combination, in the hands of a well-trained teacher, is unparalleled in its ability to tap into a child’s natural curiosity and love of learning.
The Montessori approach to education continues to be ahead of its time and is lauded by Montessori alumni such as Larry Page and Sergei Brin, the founders of Google, and Jeff Bezos, the founder of Amazon, among others.
HAND - HEART - MIND
We believe that children explore their world with their hands, their hearts, and their minds.
Our teachers approach each child as a whole being and are skilled at guiding children to help them grow in the way that is most natural to them.
Recognizing that the majority of learning at this age is through movement and must match each child’s own pace, our classroom activities are specially designed and introduced to optimize development.
We also give children the tools they need to address conflicts, become confident leaders, and fulfill their natural desires to create connections with the people around them and the universe at large.
CONCENTRATION - INDEPENDENCE - JOY
We believe that your child's true nature is revealing itself when he or she demonstrates three core behaviors: concentration, independence, and joy.
When the level of a challenge is just beyond the level of skill, a task can help put a child in a state of “flow.” Children are naturally drawn to this experience of intense concentration and emerge from it with a deep sense of satisfaction. The role of the teachers is to recognize concentration and protect it so that the child can get the most from each experience.
As humans, we prefer to not be dependent on others for what we have the potential to do ourselves: giving away our independence feels like giving away our sense of self. Children are particularly attuned to this and often insist on dressing themselves, feeding themselves, and asserting their individuality. At Trillium we focus on nurturing that independence to fortify their sense of self-empowerment.
When their hands, hearts, and minds are appropriately engaged, children experience genuine pleasure and satisfaction. This is an indication that their performance is in harmony with their potential, and is the basis for a lifetime of joyful learning.
PARENT - TEACHER - CHILD
We believe that a strong relationship between the teachers and parents forms the foundation for your child’s development.
In addition to careful observation in the classroom and one-on-one instruction that fits the needs of each child, we also focus on keeping parents actively engaged in the activities that go on in the school and about ways to empower their children to become lifelong learners.
A strong relationship between the teachers and the parents forms the foundation for a rich and consistently supportive environment that will allow children to feel safe, secure, and free to blossom as they grow.
